The Malt Room

The Malt Room, nestled within a new residential development, provides a new luxurious bar experience. Inspired by the masculine allure of whiskey and cigars, The Malt Room embodies this combination; its status, power, and charm. Responding to the needs of the local surroundings, it provides a comfortable environment for guests to enjoy their time, ensuring an indulgent and memorable visit.

The reputation that surrounds whiskey is a testament to the drink’s powerful effect, with whiskey enthusiasts holding a similar air of charisma. The strong appeal of the revered drink inspired us to delve deeper into its making process – how is a drink of this importance crafted? This exploration of the intricate whiskey-making process serves as the cornerstone for infusing The Malt Room with soul, defining its forms, and refining its details.

Imbuing the brand with greater depth and historical significance, we paired whiskey with its perfect counterpart — the cigar. The rich flavours of both whiskey and cigars intertwine to elevate each other, promising a truly indulgent experience for patrons of The Malt Room.

Delving further into the brand’s name, the idea of the ‘room’ emerged as a compelling narrative. The image of light pouring through an ajar door led to our final logo design, where the stem of the ‘T’ utilizes negative space to subtly communicate this image. This element imbues the design with a sense of uniqueness and mystery. Highlighting their core product, we paired the logo with a brand icon that combines the whiskey grains with a glass. To successfully capture the brand’s elegant personality, a rich color palette of lush green, deep mahogany, brass, and light ivory was selected. The key colors of green and mahogany symbolize the transition of tobacco leaves, deepening the brand’s story and impact. 

Reinforcing the brand's visual identity, a recurring motif of thin, straight lines was developed, drawing inspiration from the malting process. To complement this, we extracted the ‘door’ element from the logo, using this as a framing device to embed a sense of excitement and curiosity in the brand.  Reflecting the brand’s sophisticated personality, the material details of the application zoom into the details; a combination of gold foil printing, textured paper, and robust leather covers are employed. 

Merging the historical charm of whiskey with the contemporary flair of a bar, and striking a harmonious balance between traditional and modern was the biggest challenge. Alongside this, it was essential that the brand evoke a sense of luxury and sophistication, particularly given its focus on whiskey. Responding to this, we made a deliberate typographic choice, fusing both serif and sans serif fonts in the logo. Doing so allowed us to alleviate the tension between the juxtaposing styles, a strategy that was continued with the colour palette and material choices, intertwining whiskey and cigars at the brand’s core.  


Interior Design

This venue will focus on glamorizing life surrounded by Whiskey which offers an invigorating experience that encapsulates the essence of local living. Providing a secure and welcoming space for intimate gatherings and meetings. Infusing each stage of the intricate process of Whiskey-making to the venue’s soul, forms, and details. Reminiscent of traditional whiskey packaging and bottling are seamlessly integrated into a modern aesthetic.

Attention to detail elevates the space to new heights of sophistication and luxury. From the meticulously designed whiskey lockers and joinery to the exploration of varying widths of fluted glass and linear elements, every aspect is thoughtfully curated to captivate and intrigue. Indeed, it's the meticulous attention to these finer points that truly sets The Malt Room apart.
